THE BIHAR INDUSTRY

Another major company, Export Linkers, of Hazaribag, has recently expanded its operations into the field of ground mica. New Mills have been installed at Hazaribagh for the production of an extensive range of flakes and powders from 9.5 mm down to 20 microns. Current production is 3000 tpa. Export Linkers has also planned further expansion at Bhilwara, in the Rajasthan district. Primary crushing and screening is carried out, and the 3000 tpa output of drilling mud grade flakes is exported via the port of Bombay to the Middle East.

MORE MICA FROM EXPORT LINKERS

Export Linkers one of India's leading exporters of mica scrap, have expanded their activities in the mica powder manufacturing field since the Indian government waived the export duty on mica powder and flakes (mica scrap is subjected to 40% export duty). This has encouraged the company to develop facilities for milling the mica scrap produced in the Hazaribag and Gaya district of north-east India, which had previously been exported to relatively small quantities after minimal processing. Various grinding mills and classifiers were installed to give a wide range of products but difficulties were experienced in the efficient production of the 325 mesh grades. This problem was recently solved by the installation of the 'Duoplex Classifier Impact Mill', made by Alpine A.G. of West Germany. The mill is equipped with a 'Micro Pulsaire' dust collecting system and a self acting water injecting device to control temperature during grinding. The addition of this equipment will allow the company to supply a complete range of products at a rate of 3,000 tpa in grades from 9.5mm. down to 20 microns.

Export Linkers have also planned further expansion in Bhilwara in north-west India, conveniently situated near the port of Bombay where regular ocean transport is available to the Arab oil producing states. Two miracle Mills and high tolerance rotary screens are currently in operation, producing 3,000 tons of mica flakes annually for use as an additive in oil well drilling muds.
